Dear Married:

First, let’s establish what kind of “looking” we’re talking about here.  Are you being rude or
disrespectful to your wife with your looking?  Are you making it clear to her and everyone
around you that you’d rather be with someone else?  Are you using “all guys look at other
women” as an excuse to obsess about one particular other woman?

If the answer to these is no, then you’re not the problem here, Married.  This issue rarely
comes up in an honest, secure relationship.  Talk to your wife, and find out what she’s
insecure about.

Dear Mrs. Married, Not Dead:

It’s human nature to look at other people we find attractive.  It’s a leftover behavior from our
pre-civilized days, when our only goal in life was to live long enough to pass on our genes.
If you’re being honest with your husband and yourself, then you’ll have to admit that you
look at other men.

Haven’t you ever been turned on by a romantic scene in a book or movie?  And afterwards,
were you more affectionate with your partner because of it?  Be a little open-minded about
innocent looking, Mrs. Married, and I think you’ll find that your husband gives you much
praise and attention.  Plant seeds of trust, and you’ll see am honest and trusting
relationship grow.  Act overly jealous, and you may actually cause him to be more secretive
about his feelings.  That’s the exact opposite of what you want.

I have a nice painting in my living room, but when I go to the museum, I still look at the other
paintings.  Let your partner enjoy the beautiful art, and make sure you feel secure enough
to enjoy it yourself.  After all, the world’s one big art museum full of pretty ladies and guys.

Signed,
Aunt Chelsea
Dear Aunt Chelsea:
I love my wife very much. I still look at other women and she freaks out. I'm not going to do
anything with these other girls I look at; I'm just looking. She's the one I make love to. What
can I do about her jealousy?
